The Gold Museum and Textile Museum located in Monterrico, is a unique tourist site with displays of exotic ancient royal ornaments and traditional garments. Getting to Peru is not a difficult task. LAN Peru operates international flights by
LAN Chile. The flights reach Miami, Los Angeles New York and other Latin American cities. Jorge Chavez international airport of Lima is the chief Peruvian airport that operates flights to and from the Asian, European and American countries. Tans Perú, Aero Condor Perú and Star Perú are the major domestic flights. Several small airlines, such as LC Busre, offers light aircraft to travel remote spots. PeruRail, connects between Cuzco and Aguas Calientes. Public buses are popular for traveling long distances. Passports are required to be produced at police checkpoints. Armed robberies on night buses are frequent. So a day bus journey can be the best option. Taxis have to be booked in advance. Water taxis, dugout canoes and cargo boats are popular water transport modes for travelling Peru's Amazon Basin.
Precaution in Peru
Peru is a peaceful and safe tourist destination of South America. However there are some emergency areas that need not be entered by tourists. The Shining Path guerrilla movement is in decline with some meagre activities in the Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Huanuco, Junin and San Martin areas. Massive drug trafficking prevails in border areas. Hence the border areas should be avoided. During national strikes tourists are requested not to travel or loiter in streets and public places.
