Getting Around Mexico

Mexico City houses some of the major Mexican airlines. There are more than fifty airports in Mexico with regular passenger flights. Aeromexico and Mexicana offer international as well as domestic flights. Travel by train is not popular and is limited only in northern and central Mexico. Train services are available from the border to Mexico City to Oaxaca and Copper Canyon Railway. Long distance buses locally termed as camiones are the most common and well-served public transport. They connect even to the remote areas. Two classes of bus namely first (primera) and second (segunda) offer long distance travels. First-class have reserved seats, videos and air conditioning. Second class buses halt in more places and take longer travel periods. Taxis and car hires are also available in the major centers. Instances of robberies and other serious assaults in cars and taxis have been traced in the northwest and especially in the state of Sinaloa. So one should be very cautious while hiring a private car or a taxi.

Precautions in Mexico
Though Mexico is a safe and peaceful place for the tourists but the crowded tourist areas specially the beach resorts, are targeted by hooligans. There are incidents of thefts, kidnappings and sexual assaults to many of these areas. Vilolent drug trading takes place in Sinaloa and the northern states. Travelers should be well alert while traveling to these areas and take extra caution at night.
