Lao PDR is the Lao People's Democratic Republic located in Southeast Asia. The landlocked country is also known as Laos .the country is bordered by Myanmar, People's Republic of China, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. The place has its connection with the kingdom of Lang Xang which is famous as 'the land of a million elephants'. It gained its independence in 1949 after remaining a French colony for long. In 1975 when communist Pathet Lao came to power the civil war that stretched for long came to an end.

According to census 2005 the area has a total population of 5,924,000 and a density of 25peple per sq km.The total area of the country is 2236,800 sq km with 2% only under water. The country's name in the native language is "Munag Laos". Laos is divided into 16 provinces, 1 municipality zone namely Kumpang nakon and 1 special zone of Ketpisade. The climate is mainly tropical type with monsoons stretching from May to November.
Lao culture is immensely influenced by the Theravada Buddhism. Out of the total population 60% practice Buddhism. The GDP of the country is US$ 9.7 billion.

Besides the capital city of Vientiane, the major cities of the country are Luang, Prabang, Savannkhet and Pakse.

The capital city of the country has some of the best luxurious hotels. Precautions
Tap water is not at all safe for consumption. So make it sure that you carry mineral water when you visit Laos. Also avoid uncooked vegetables and peeled fruits. As card system is accepted in the country it would be wise not to carry liquid money. Simultaneously don't make any effort to break the country rules.
