In recent times Congo Zaire is also known as The Democratic Republic of Congo and is located in Central Africa. The country received its independence in June 30, 1960 and is the third largest country in Africa. It covers an area of 2,344,858 square km with a population of 59,319,660 and the Government of Congo Zaire is semi presidential republic. Copper, diamond, cobalt, crude oil and coffee are the major exports of this country. The Second Congo War has affected this country to a great extent.

The Kisanto Botanical Gardens is one of the major tourist locations of Congo Zaire. This place has a collection of trees that are 100 years old and there are also some beautiful rivers which provide a great experience of swimming.
The city of Kinshasa is a must see while in Congo Zaire. Chutes de Lukia is the greatest place to be in while in Kinshasa. It has got some awesome restaurants and natural lakes where swimming is a great experience and there is also an orphanage of Bonobo (Pygmy Chimpanzee).
The Epulu Reservation is a dense forest and is an important place to visit which remains open all the year round.

Parc National de la Garamba is a Savannah which accommodates a large variety of animals like baboon, buffalo, antelope, hippopotamus, garage, leopard, lion etc and also a huge variety of birds. The most special attraction here is the domestic elephants which are used as vehicles to visit the park.
Some other parks to visit are Parc National de Salonga and Parc National des Virunga.

The Government and the tribal people are frequently in war in this region. Hence the travelers should be cautious while visiting Congo Zaire.
