Burundi is located in the region of Great Lakes in Africa and its official name is Republic of Burundi. The present name of this country has been derived from its Kirundi language. Burundi is a landlocked and isolated country and it covers an area of 27,830 square km with a population of 7,548,000. This country is considered to be one of the poorest and it faces a lot of problems. Burundi has minor resources and its earlier inhabitants were Pygmies. It is generally called the 'Heart of Africa' and is situated on a rolling plateau. Burundi's economy is largely depended on agricultural industry and coffee grows in large amount here.

Kirundo is another beautiful place and has two lovely lakes named Cohoha and Rweru. Beautiful birds from all over the world can be seen here.
The city of Gitega has drummers and dancers who entertain tourists and this city also contains the National Museum and the School of Arts.

The medical aids in this country are very limited and malaria is a common disease in Burundi.
